Across from Chora, between the sea and the mountains.
A ten-minute drive from the port of Serifos brings you to Chora, the island’s capital, with its winding, stair-like streets and breathtaking views. You leave the car below and begin a short walk uphill through the village to reach the apartment. A few steps later, the double terrace comes into view, and the surprise is complete: to the right, the ocean blending into the sky; to the left, the village’s white houses climbing up the mountainside.
I especially love these places that offer a dual view, as if you had the sea and the village all to yourself. It’s the kind of place where you set down your bags and spend long minutes doing nothing but looking out, a cup of coffee in hand.
Inside, the apartment spans two floors and features two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a small, fully equipped kitchen. The air conditioning—which is especially welcome during peak season—adds that touch of comfort we love to experience when traveling.
But what appealed to me most here was the distinctly traditional decor. I love places with modern decor, but it also feels so good to find spots with a more traditional style—one that captures the soul of the country, its traditions, and its culture. Here, a few pieces of pottery, some lace, and a clean, white backdrop are all it takes to evoke the full spirit of the Cyclades. You get the sense that this place could exist nowhere else but in Greece; it feels right at home, true to its culture, without any artifice or over-the-top decor.
On the Greek islands, you often find yourself isolated pretty quickly when you rent a house, forced to drive even for a single baguette or a simple dinner at a restaurant. The advantage of spending a few days in Chora during your stay on Serifos is precisely that you can do everything on foot: in just a few minutes, you can reach the bakery, the ice cream shop, the restaurants, and the village supermarket.
Finally, thank you to our hosts at Homesphere, who were flexible, accommodating, and always available to answer any questions or offer a great recommendation. George was waiting for us in the village parking lot to help us with our luggage and walk us to the apartment. Homesphere also offers a second apartment in Chora: Homesphere Olive, which is just as authentically decorated, but this time features a rooftop terrace.
