Croatia
This architectural kaleidoscope combines a multitude of visual styles, each of which tells a little of Croatia’s story. I’m particularly fond of its blue and red egg-shaped living room.

Boškinac Hotel
Novalja
,
Croatia
Arriving in Pag feels like landing on the moon. I was determined to see them—those desert-like mounds eroded by the lapis lazuli blue of the sea. Here, the town is famous for its lace and its street embroiderers, and a sheep’s-milk cheese that sells like hotcakes. Yet everything is in limbo; we live in the gentle embrace of our roots, just like at the Boskinac Hotel

Villa Bajtica
Bled
,
Slovenia
Heading back toward Zagreb and Slavonia, the climate is harsher, and there are many small traditional wooden houses. It’s a good opportunity to stop in Slovenia near Lake Bled.
