About us

Surrounded by olive groves and rice paddies, Montinhos is an intimate estate designed by Mafalda & Rui on their family land, which they have carefully restored in the heart of Portugal’s Alentejo region. Spread across two white houses, the property features a family home for four people and a three-bedroom guesthouse. Designed down to the smallest detail by the hosts themselves, the property blends raw materials, Portuguese craftsmanship, and a peaceful atmosphere that opens onto nature. From the pool, the view stretches out over the estate’s rice paddies and olive groves, which provide the rice and olive oil served throughout your stay.

ROOMS

Montinhos consists of two white houses: one features a vacation home for four people, while the other offers three guest rooms, each with a kitchenette and a private patio. Inspired by Mediterranean patios, the rooms blend natural materials, local vegetation, and Portuguese craftsmanship. Here, every detail reflects the hosts’ passion for this project.

A word from our hosts

"The Alentejo, our haven.

There is the summer heat, the shade of the cork oaks, and the song of the cicadas. The whitewashed walls, the inner courtyards, and the water flowing through the canal. And then there is that simple act: dipping one’s feet in the springs of the rice paddies.

It is a love that has been passed down, received as a legacy. A love that is also a love of silence and leisurely strolls.

It was this deep attachment that sparked the desire to restore the ruins of Montinhos. A peaceful place, home to its “listening chimneys” that have witnessed so many whispers and stories.

What is unfolding before us today is the embodiment of the memories of all our summers, our struggles, our stories, and our destiny.

"A sense of peace and a leisurely stroll that we’re sharing with you today."

Rui & Mafalda
